Comparing the fatigability of paraspinal muscles between sides and curve levels while performing a modified side plank in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

چکیده
Background While many studies have been performed on the effects of exercise on Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) little research has been done into the underlying muscle physiology. Studies have suggested a fibre type imbalance, however, the implications of this difference as reflected through fatiguability have not been studied. The slope of the median frequency of the surface electromyographic (EMG) signal is a useful tool in determining the fatigability of muscles.

Histochemical Analysis of Paraspinal Rotator Muscles From Patients With Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Morphological, biochemical, and histopathological alterations in the paraspinal skeletal muscle of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) have been extensively reported. We evaluated rotator muscle fibers from the apex vertebra of AIS patients through histological and immunohistochemical analysis. A population of 21 female AIS patients who underwent corrective surgery between 2010 ...
متن کاملComparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects
Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...
متن کاملComparing the Electromyography Activity of Core Muscles During Side Plank Exercise on Stable and Unstable Surfaces
Objective Numerous abdominal exercises with Swiss ball are used to improve core stability with strengthening and rehabilitation goals. It is claimed that the stability exercises have a greater impact on core muscle activation, but the validity of this claim is still in doubt. Moreover, there is no comprehensive study on the comparison of the core muscles activity in different core stability exe...

BACKGROUND Non-surgical techniques for treating scoliosis frequently focus on realigning the spine, typically by muscular relaxation or muscular or ligamentous stretching. However, such treatments, which include physical therapeutic, chiropractic, and bracing techniques, are inconsistently supported by current evidence. In this study, we assess the possible benefits of asymmetrical strengthenin...
متن کاملHystological paraspinal muscle comparison between curve concavity and convexity in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Background Several studies have presented morphological, biochemical and histopathological changes in the paraspinal skeletal muscle of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Some abnormalities have been demonstrated such as an increased amount of type I fibers in the concavity and the decreased number of type II in the convexity, an increase in the intracellular concentration of ...
